We were at N Myrtle beach several years ago and ate at a great seafood buffet . Don%26#39;t remeber exactly where it was, but didn%26#39;t tbhink it was too far. What (calabash style) seafood areas are closest to North myrtle beach that are reasonably priced? as far as that goes, we are not that far from calabash NC. What are the best places there to eat? Not all of the family is in to seafood, so would prefer a place..buffet preferred...that also serves other food as well. thanks for any advice.

I highly recommend making a trip to the town of Calabash, NC. It is such a beautiful little town, and Callahan%26#39;s gift shop has the best Christmas section I%26#39;ve ever seen.
There aren%26#39;t too many buffets in the town of Calabash, rather most of the restaurants serve food family style. My wife and I love Capt. Nance%26#39;s and Dockside. My parents stop at Beck%26#39;s every year.
In the Restaurant Row area between Myrtle and North Myrtle, there are several seafood buffets. Giant Crab, Bennetts, etc. In North Myrtle, one of the better seafood buffets can be found at Prestons (which is near Barefoot Landing).
Good luck!

Others can correct me if they disagree. In my opinion Calabash is just another term for breaded and deep fried fish. Pretty much what you get anywhere. May be some difference in batter seasoning but other than that it%26#39;s deep fried fish.
Only buffet I can think of in NMB is Captain%26#39;s Plank in Cherry Grove. They have seafood and country buffet. It has been our list of ';must stop at'; restaurants for several years. I do have fingers crossed for our next trip. I%26#39;ve noticed a couple of bad reviews for the ';Plank';. Most of them are from ';off season'; visits so I hope it%26#39;s just a seasonal problem.
If the ';Plank'; isn%26#39;t the one you%26#39;re looking for, try this site. Maybe you%26#39;ll see one that looks familiar.

';Calabash Style'; refers to breaded and deep fried seafood that was originated in the town of Calabash. It is a certain type of breading (more of a southern cornmeal), so it can%26#39;t be confused with your local Long John Silver%26#39;s deep-fried food.
I, personally, do not like deep fried seafood. However, I do LOVE the town of Calabash. And, each of the restaurants there also serve fresh seafood that has not been breaded and fried.
The term ';Calabash Seafood'; has lately been applied to anything that has been breaded %26amp; deepfried, even though the term was (and still is) used to describe a certain way of breading %26amp; deepfrying that you will only find in certain restaurants, mostly those in Calabash, NC.
Most of the seafood buffets in MB that advertize ';Calabash Seafood'; have regular old breaded %26amp; deepfried seafood.
Real Calabash seafood has a LIGHT layer of cornbread %26amp; is never ';soggy'; with oil, like the fare at many of the buffets.
The term is loosely tossed around %26amp; there should be an inspector to verify authenticity before they can use the term!
