My husband and I will be renting a condo in Kiawah in July with our 2 young children. While we plan on spending our daytime hours as a family, we%26#39;d love to do some things at night for just the two of us. Fortunately, we are also bringing a nanny.
Any ideas for adults-only evening plans or even an overnight getaway?
Kiawah nightlife?
Kiawah is very quiet at night. On island, have dinner at The Ocean room at The Sanctuary Hotel, have a drink in the lobby bar, or attend an oyster roast at The Sanctuary Hotel. For more extensive nightlife and dining options, take the 35 -40 minute drive into Charleston.
Kiawah nightlife?
Thanks for the suggestions. Are there any other nice restaurants in Kiawah that you would recommend?
Aside from The Ocean Room, there is The Sanctuary Hotel%26#39;s other restaurant, The Jasmine Porch. The Jasmine Porch is fairly large. I have never had dinner there, but they do a very nice breakfast. The Ocean Room is smaller; it is only open for dinner and is the hotel%26#39;s ';premier'; restaurant, so you wil need a reservation there.
At Freshfields Center, just outside the entrance to Kiawah, you will find Hege%26#39;s, which serves a mix of lowcountry/continental/italian entrees.
Further out the road toward Charleston, about 10 minutes from Kiawah, is Chez Fish. Chez Fish looks like a roadside shack, but they have a very nice wine list and a creative seafood menu. this place is quite popular, so make a reservation.
At the Bohicket Marina, down the road in the other direction toward Seabrook, The Rosebank Cafe serves local cuisine in large portions. Their fried chicken and fried shrimp are very good. In addtion to a normal wine list, they serve local, Wadamalaw Island wine.
Do try to get into Charleston for an evening or two. The restaurants are great, and the city is extremely romantic.
What kinds of foods does the Jasmine Porch offer at their breakfast buffett?
The daily breakfast buffet has a variety of hot and cold breakfast items including made-to-order omelletes. I have never had the breakfast buffet, although it looks very good if you are hungry enough. Alternatively, the ala carte breakfast selections are creative and well-prepared.
The ';Sunday Brunch'; buffet is more lunch-oriented, and features a lot of local dishes, especially seafood. On Sunday they also have a less a limited children%26#39;s brunch menu.
I think I%26#39;ll try the regular daily breakfast buffet as it is less than half the price of the Sunday brunch.
Not a bad idea to get an idea of the atmosphere, but be aware that the menus are very different.
Look at The Sanctuary%26#39;s website --(www.thesanctuary.com/dining/menu.html). You will be able to see sample menues for all meals at all of the restaurants.
If the Sunday Brunch appeals to you, I wouldn%26#39;t hesitate to try It. It is delicious - and an amazing value for anyone who has the appetite for a feast. However, in the middle of a hot summer, Sunday, the brunch might be too much food.
