Sands Dunes Resort

I just booked the 3 bedroom suite for this coming August . It is our first time in Myrtle Beach. I only thought of checking the reviews after I reserved. Should I worry? There seems to be really positive reviews and really negative reviews. We will be three couples of which two of us have a child who are 2 years old. Basically I want to know if it is clean and if there really are roaches in the rooms. PLease help! Let me know if it is better to cancel and start my search over again.

Sands Dunes Resort

I think its horrible and I%26#39;m not really all that hard to please. The o/f suite we were assigned two years ago was filthy %26amp; it stunk. Can%26#39;t comment on the roach situation because we refused to spend one night in that place.

The kids pool area looks great and all the public areas were well kept.

I%26#39;ve heard they have renovated recently %26amp; things have improved but I%26#39;ll never try it again.

Don%26#39;t know if this helps or not.

Sands Dunes Resort

We stayed there last year and asked to be moved to a different room right away. The first room they attempted to book us in was unacceptable. It was dark, dingy and smelled. We asked to see another room to make a decision or else we were not going to stay there. The next room they showed us was an improvement, but still not up to my standards of cleanliness. Definitely was worn and torn. It was late and we didn%26#39;t want to drive around to find another place so we chose to stay. The pool area was a lot of fun, but rather small. Bar right next door to pool, music, karoke, contests throughout the day. Their location is in a decent area. If you have small kids, the waterpark there is great. Remember, you can always change your mind and refuse to pay once you see your room. You may want to check their cancellation policy to see if you will lose a percentage of your deposit. Since this is your first time to Myrtle Beach, I would choose a better place to stay so it will be positive experience.

PS - the hotel is set up like a motel with the entrances on the outside walkway not an interior hallway. When we arrived it was about 9:00 pm and the walkways were full of trash sitting outside everybody%26#39;s door. Many flies were present.

Worried Mom,

We stayed there last year with our 1-4 year old and we had a wonderful time. I can honestly tell you that it is not the best resort at Myrtle Beach, but the waterpark puts smiles on the children and that makes up for the other in my opionion. I do remember not getting towels as we would have liked and their was a lot of renovations taking place.

Here is the exciting part for YOU!!! We are actually going back next week- we will be there from Sunday to Thursday- kids now 2-5. If you send me your e-mail, I will give you an update as soon as I get back. My work e-mail is: epearce@firstcommunitysc.com. Send me a note so I can respond back to you when we return. If I do not hear back I will try to put an update onto Trip Advisor. Have a great day,

Happy Father

Unless you really want the kids water park I would try South Wind,Grande Shores,Forest Dunes or Sea Island. All are in the area.

Will let you know how it is when we get back, going next week. Were atSand Dunes 2 yrs ago and we are going back. Had no problems at all. Have stayed in an ocenafront effieciency, the rooms were a bit outdated but I heard they have renovated them and basically we did not spend much time in the room. Love this beach area and area of Myrtle Beach. Did not like firther south area of Myrtle beach much too congested.

Just returned last night after staying at the Sand Dunes. Had a great week. As we were returning customers we are now gold card members. This is free and gets you a few discounts. We stayed in an oceanfront room and it was great. The 8th floor, clean and I think updated from our stay ther 2 years ago. We have previously stayed in an oceanfront efficiency and the only difference is a sink and stove top. The regular room and a refrig, microwave and coffee pot.

We were able to check in at 11am which was very nice.

We did not use the pools at all,we are basically there for the beach.

Did not use the water park as we did not have children with us and it is very kiddie oriented.

Nice having a river city there to eat at,can order take out and eat at the beach or sit outside there and overlook the water park. also nice having a california pizza right there also.

Music by the pool,I believe everyday{a DJ}, except there was no music on mon and tues. they play music 12-4pm. you can hear it at the beach depending on where you sit,but it is not overwhelming.

any questions I will be glad to answer.

I really like this beach area and the view is wonderful.

I am home tonight and wishing I could look out my window at the ocean.

J-

Can you give more details of the Sands? Is the pool bar entertainment at Sands or Ocean Dunes? How close are the 2? Is the water park area big enough to make some older kids happy ( 11, 12 , 13) ? Where would be the best place to request? I heard rooms were renovated. Id like a newer one. Was the maid service good? Also,is there washer and dryer? We stayed at Embassy last year and it had everything EXCEPT a washer and dryer.. none in the entire hotel. Id like to try the Sand Dunes, but all of the negatice posts last year kept me from booking. This year, there are many GOOD reviews. Do you have any pictures of the hotel and grounds?? Thanks in advance.

The pool entertainment was at the Sand Dunes Tues thru Saturday. It was a DJ,he played music and did some games in the pool etc.

I did hear possibly the same DJ at the Ocean Dunes from a distance on Monday.

The 2 motels are side by side. Sand Dunes is larger.

Walked over once before to the Ocean Dunes and felt like the motel rooms were looking straight down at the pool area,didn%26#39;t like the looks of it.

As far as the water park, in previous years my teenagers had used the lazy river but it is really full of l;ots of little kids now. It is not a big water park as you may think,a few water slides maybe 6 feet high and an area where there is water squirting out at you. The lazy river is fairly small.

Not sure what size room you want as how many people are being with you.

No washer and dryer in our room. you may be more interested in the2,3 bedroom areas.

We had a hotel size room which had 2 double beds, the bathroom and a separate area outside the bathroom with an extra sink and mirror. If you go to the sand dunes website, you can see the room dimensions and a scale of the room layout. I like the oceanFRONT rooms myself.

The maid service was ok,they did the basics.

Thanks J.

There are 14 of us for sure. Possibly 18. I want to share a 3 bedroom suite. Then you get the washer/dryer. But those suites are only ocean view. Or thats all thats left now. I love Ocean FRONT too!!!

Embassy has the water park too. Its in a shallow pool, where it looks like the one at the sands is not in water. Still, it gives the kids something different to do. It looks like there is a lazy river at the water park that looks pretty big. Good enough. Im a beach person. I just want to sit on the beach until 5! :)

I heard so much about the place being filthy and the rooms being disgusting. Im glad it seems to be much better there. I really want to give this place a try! if YOU HAVe any pictures you can share, Id love to see them. Thanks so much.
