Driving Directions

We are drivng from St. Louis MO to Charleston, SC. Can anyone tell us the best route to take? AAA takes us thru Knoxville/Asheville but other routes take us thru Atlanta. Any suggestions?

My parents drive here from Louisville, Ky, through Knoxville/Asheville. They say it is a pleasant route, and that they really enjoy it. They have been making this trip for many years.

If you have time to stop, Asheville is a beautiful resort area and home to the famous Biltmore Estate and gardens. Look it up in the AAA book if you%26#39;re not already familiar with it.

We do the I-40 route every year to Seabrook Island. We%26#39;ve done the route thru Atlanta during racing season. This was not fun. Traffic was backed up for miles! Stick with 1-40 especially during the summer.

If you are going during the summer months, the trip across I-40 to Asheville to I-26 to Charleston will probably be the quickest. (Winter can bring snows through the mts. along 40.) As the other posters said, traffic in Atlanta is heavy and may cause delays, especially during rush hour. You shouldn%26#39;t get the same delays through Knoxville, Asheville, Spartanburg, or Columbia.
