I see lots of people talking about it, but don%26#39;t really know what in the world it is!
What exactly is the Battery?
I%26#39;m sure someone will have a better explanation than this, but here goes:
The battery is the area at the very tip of the peninsula of Charleston, with the Cooper River on the eastern side and the Ashley River on the west. As it looks out on Charleston Harbor, It is where Southern troops garrisoned during the war and from where they fired upon Ft. Sumter. Citadel cadets did much of the firing, and there were even cannons located on some of the roofs of the houses there.
The battery is a gorgeous area, with a park (White Point Gardens) filled with beautiful oak trees, old cannons, and a pretty gazebo in the middle. The houses along the battery are the epitome of ';old Charles Towne';, and they are all worth many millions of dollars. From the battery, one can see nearly all of Charleston Harbor, Mt. Pleasant, and James Island.
What exactly is the Battery?
Floski gave a great description of the Battery. It really is a nice place to take a stroll and sit in the park...especially on a hot day.
On a side note, it really is great to see you posting again, tgirl! I hope everything%26#39;s going better for you and that you can post a lot more!
Thank you so much for clearing that up!
I%26#39;ll be in Charleston on Sunday and I%26#39;m very excited!
