Here%26#39;s the latest!

';Hard Rock Park prepares to build

DAWN BRYANT

Bulldozers will start building the highly anticipated Hard Rock Park in two weeks, and developers plan to throw a party after the long road it took to get shovels in the ground.

Gov. Mark Sanford and Chad Prosser, director of the S.C. Parks, Recreation and Tourism department, are scheduled to attend the 10 a.m. groundbreaking July 13 at the 55-acre site off U.S. 501 in Fantasy Harbour, according to their spokesmen. Park officials wouldn%26#39;t release more details last week.

The $400 million park, touted as the largest tourism investment in South Carolina, will open in 2008. Developers spent three years raising the money to make the project happen, finally going to the bond market to get the bulk of the financing.

The theme park will be the first using the Hard Rock brand.';

And for the new Interstate....

';Plan leaves few options for South Strand

By Mike W. Templeton

A number of articles have been published by The Sun News regarding the future development and routing of Interstate 73.

The development of I-73 is a major milestone for the Grand Strand as well as our immediate neighbors across the border in the southeastern section of North Carolina. However, all residents south of U.S. 501 all the way to Georgetown should recognize that the routing has a serious flaw.

Currently I-73 is projected to terminate in the Brown Bay area at S.C. 22. This means that any resident south of U.S. 501 would have only a few reasonable options for accessing I-73.

This means that during hurricane evacuation (or, for that matter, almost any other time) we must inch along at a snail%26#39;s pace up U.S. 501 for 20 miles through Conway and then cut back four miles south to reach I-73. The second option would involve traveling another 10 miles north on U.S. 17 Bypass, then cutting back south almost the same distance when we reach S.C. 22.

Neither of the above options makes much sense when you consider that I-73 could have been linked directly to S.C. 31 (Carolina Bays Parkway).

Perhaps the Department of Transportation and our state representatives should consider review of a S.C. 31 connector. Yes, [it would be] expensive, but consider the alternatives.

While they%26#39;re at it, they might want to consider labeling and mapping S.C. 31 and S.C. 22 as real expressways. If they were mapped accordingly, I am almost certain more tourists would use them, thereby reducing congestion on roads.';

As for the Pavilion....I work for the company that owns that property (B%26amp;C) and we havent been told anything...I dont think anyone really knows yet what will be there....it wont be all the stores around there, just the amusement park and the area on the beachfront acrioss from the amusement park that will be torn down....

A great resource to keep you updated is our local paper....www.myrtlebeachonline.com....you can search the archives for additional articles if you would like.

News Updates

Thanx MBC I%26#39;ll check back with the website often.

I wish the Interstate would help people getting off I-20 in florence to get directly to the heart of MB quicker linking I-73 onto 501 or something like that, but I guess we can%26#39;t have everything out way. lol.

Thanx again.

Thanks for the updates. So I will have to scratch that off of my list of things to do. I guess it%26#39;s Family Kingdom (which costs much much more). At least I got one trip to the Pavilion in before it%26#39;s demise. Actually when I went last year, I told my husband they needed to renovate or tear that place down. (Who would have thunk it). It was showing its age anyway but still was nice for my 5-year old who is a little tall for his age so he had a chance to get on all of the big kid rides.

Q: Is Family Kingdom Better than the Pavilion? And are there any other amusement parks similar to those that are in MB that won%26#39;t cost me Busch Garden/Kings Dominion/Six Flags prices.

Thanks,

Also, I prefer places that you don%26#39;t have to pay at entry.

I am not one that gets on any rides. I always get sick and also I am pregnant. So I don%26#39;t want to have to pay $40.00 to get in and not even spend one second on a ride.

Well The Pavilion IMO is alot better than the Family Kingdom (BTW the Pavilion is still standing it will be gone the year of 2007) No there isn%26#39;t anymore theme parks except for I thuink its called Myrtle Grand Prix but its smaller than the pavilion or family Kingdom. Although the good thing is that in 2008 The new Hard Rock Theme Park will be built and ready. IDK if you will get in free there or not? Probably not. The Pavilion %26amp; family Kingdom are both free entry %26amp; I like the Pavilion better. IDK about the rest.

Pivilion and Family Kingdom are the only ones. I like both of the parks very good. I tend to like that Family Kingdom a little better, not for the rides but it is less crowded sometimes. They both have some different rides but there anit that much difference.
