Just Back from Sea Island

I promised a review of Sea Island, and I%26#39;ll give a more detailed review next week when I have time. But in short, you won%26#39;t be disappointed. It%26#39;s a beautiful property, and there%26#39;s nothing like staying in a brand new resort. On top of that, we had absolutely perfect weather. I also have pictures, but have to download them off my camera and figure out how to post them on this site.

I know how anxious I was to have information and pictures, so I%26#39;ll be back in a few days with more of what you want to know.

Sorry to those of you who might be going this weekend, but again, you won%26#39;t be disappointed in your accommodations or in the property itself. I will give you one tip -- the only thing they provide in the kitchen beyond basic dishware, bakeware, and pots/pans (no Teflon pans or griddles) is dishwasher soap. No coffee filters, paper towels, or dish liquid. There is also no hair dryer in the bathroom. Many places now provide these types of items, but at least for now, Sea Island does not.

More next week, I promise!

Just Back from Sea Island

What was the cost?

Just Back from Sea Island

Thanks for posting! I%26#39;ve been anxiously waiting for feedback. Glad to hear about the items in/not in the kitchen. Will be looking forward to your pictures as well as our time there in July!

Thanks for the post!

Do you feel the price was in line with what you got?

Glad to hear the place met your expectations...I know when I toured the lobby and restaurant areas, I was really impressed. I cant wait to read your full review and see you pics! Did you like the pool area? I know that has been a major concern of a number of folks making plans to stay there.

:)

Just got back from Sea Island tonight and it was AWESOME!!! We are incredibly picky and thought it was near perfect. I will agree about the kitchen items - everything was brand new but not Teflon - but met our needs. We did call and get a hairdryer no problem - they said they were still working at getting them in all the rooms.

Just wanted to answer MB about the pools. From the pics I saw, I was not impressed and almost cancelled - big mistake!! To make it easier to understand, here%26#39;s the highlights of each:

South pool: Neat design, long s-shaped like north pool but center area is 1/2- 1 ft with levels going deeper to the ends being 5ft. Allows toddlers to play or adults to sit in the shallow areas or on the levels and relax.

North pool: Outside, long kinda s-shaped, center area 3 ft. ends 5 ft.

Allows for several groups of people to be in the pool but not near each other. Kids played while adults relaxed and nobody got splashed!!

Jacuzzi near the north pool and inside area.

Inside: small pool area near lazy river. Felt heated.

Area for smaller kids: sloped down with water jetting up. ';trees'; with the big rainhead shower heads. About 1 -1 1/2 feet deep. Heated. I think the capacity said over 100.

Jacuzzi in the corner.

Pool area with basketball goal.

Lazy river - thought this was very neat. Rock walls and water sprays were well done. Floats provided (although some people snag them for the pools).

Large tanning lawn in between pools and fence to beach area (great for keeping the kids in!) Plenty of lounge %26amp; regular chairs.

The words don%26#39;t do it justice. I asked my dd %26amp; dh what they would rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 and they both said 10 - and we are picky.

Might as well discuss the rest.... Background: we stayed in a one bedroom (913) with 8 yr. old %26amp; 7 mth. old.

Rooms: beautifully decorated - loved the colors. Very similar to website pics. Floors in the hallways, kitchen %26amp; bath are tiled. Bedroom %26amp; LR carpeted. Granite countertops. Bathroom very large. Bedroom was good too – only compliant, I don’t think the dressers had come in yet. The only place to unpack our clothes was the 3 drawer chest the TV was on.

The kitchen was a little small but we saw the 2 and 3 bedroom ones and they were as big as you would have in your house. LR was nice – sofa %26amp; 2 chairs plus dining table (which could convert to Murphy bed).

The view was beautiful although my personal preference would to be lower. Balcony had 3 chairs %26amp; a small table.

Dining room: the food was wonderful! We ate breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was reasonable and great! Dinner was beautifully served and delicious but high. At home, this wouldn’t be a place we took our kids to – more of a celebration place. Reservations are required and dress is nice (no jeans, not sure about shorts). Don’t get me wrong, the food was GREAT but the portions weren’t huge and it was a little upscale for our two little ones!

Staff: Our housekeeper was terrific – very accommodating when the baby was sleeping, etc. The front desk staff seems new and couldn’t real answer questions about restaurants, etc. but were very friendly. I’m sure they will learn! Waiters were terrific and sweet to our kids. They didn’t have our reservation down ( we have made it that afternoon at the front desk) and we were already feeling a little self conscious since we were the only ones there under 60 (eating dinner) but our waiter put us right at ease!

Beach: beautiful! Plenty of umbrellas %26amp; chairs ($25/day for umbrella %26amp; 2 chairs, $20 after 1, $15 after 2, put up about 5ish). Lifeguard right at hotel. We could see down the beach and it was very crowded where they were several hotels together but Sea Island is surrounded by private homes so the beach was not crowded at all.

Only complaints: needed bigger trash can in kitchen, needed dresser in bedroom %26amp; needed nonstick cookware. Overall 9 ? ?

Hope I covered everything! Sorry this is so long but I was dying to know what it is like and I know ya’ll are too!

I upload the pics to this album – there is a lot but it will give you a good idea. Enjoy!!!

Glad you enjoyed your trip...I know you%26#39;ve been nervous about the hotel but that is great news it met your expectations. The pictures you took are very nice and it does look like a very nice hotel. I agree, the pool area does look very nice! I know this will be very helpful to many who have been wanting more info on Sea Island. Again, glad everything worked out for you!

Ditto! I know this will put alot of future reservation holders at ease, and maybe persuade the fence sitters to make there reservations if this is a location they are thinking of using.

:)

Inkj - Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Loved your review and the pictures. Can%26#39;t wait for our trip in July. What floor were you on? I have been told by reservations that we will be on the 10th floor - 4 bdrm unit. Can%26#39;t wait!!!!! Looking forward to some sun - getting a bit tired of all this rain in Massachusetts!!!!

Spiker4,

I miss it already! We went to the pool here today but it just wasn%26#39;t the same! We stayed on the 9th floor. I bet the 4 bedroom are unbelievable! We peeked in the windows of some vacant 2 %26amp; 3 bedrooms and they looked very spacious (bigger LR, separate dining table, etc. but same beautiful colors).

Forgot to mention this: we met some people who were staying in a studio (she said it was one big room with a kitchenette instead of a full kitchen). I didn%26#39;t see that on their website but she said when she said her hotel (The Landmark) and then Sea Island she gave up the first night deposit and just came to Sea Island! If anyone was interested in the American plan they offer or if you just need a kitchenette, a studio might be a more affordable option.

BTW, at least while we were there the AP was $40/day for adults %26amp; $22.50 for kids. Not worth it for me but alot of people seemed to do it.

Have fun!!!!

Well, I was going to write a full review, but Inkj already did such a great job, there%26#39;s not much to add. I agree with pretty much everything he/she had to say. Everything was beautiful and well done. The only thing I would mention is that if you need shade, but still would like to be out in the open pool area, there isn%26#39;t much to be had. There are no umbrella tables and only small areas of shade from a few small palms. While there seem to be plenty of regular chairs, I feel there could easily be a shortage of lounge chairs during peak times. And I also agree, Teflon would have been nice, and as I mentioned earlier, only soap for the diswasher was provided, so you need to bring paper towels/napkins, coffee fitlers, etc. However, these are all small things that shouldn%26#39;t detract from enjoying your time there. It just helps to know and be prepared. The views are beautiful and access to the beach is excellent. I%26#39;d also like to mention that our condo was extremely quiet, and we never heard noise of any kind outside of our room. And if you want to hear the sound of the ocean, you%26#39;ll need to open the balcony door! Sea Island is located in a very lovely residential area and is close and very accessible to restaurants and shopping.

Someone asked about whether or not it was worth the cost. That%26#39;s a hard question to answer. We were able to go just before peak season, which also allowed us to receive a AAA discount, making the cost manageable for us. I%26#39;m not sure we would have been willing to pay the additional $100/night (approx) for the same accommodations during peak season. We would either have downsized to a 1-bedroom or looked elsewhere, but not necessarily because we didn%26#39;t feel it was worth it. It would just have been beyond our budget. The prices at Sea Island appeared to be fairly comparable to other newer oceanfront condos (e.g., Kingston Plantation%26#39;s Brighton or Margate towers).

I%26#39;ve posted a review with pictures in TA%26#39;s hotel review section. It may take a few days before it appears on this site. Sea Island is beautiful, and I don%26#39;t think anyone could possibly be disappointed in their stay here.

One other thing. We were there during Atlantic Beach Bikefest. It was a non-issue and didn%26#39;t interfere in any way with our stay.

PS: MB Concierge -- Thanks for directing us down Hwy 22 to 31 etc. That turned out to be the perfect route. Many thanks!
