Restaurant suggestions in Charleston ?

Hello nywebchic,

We just returned from Charleston and enjoyed the 82 Queen restaurant! You can sit out in a beautiful courtyard and enjoy great food on their menu. A typical meal per person costs around $23.00 (not including drinks, of course).

We also ate at Blossom (I believe this was on East Bay Street). It is near the waterfront. They have a small courtyard and offer a nice selection of dinner options (including brick oven pizza that is out of this world!).

The Inn at Middleton Place also has a lovely restaurant on their grounds that is lit up by candlelight in the evening.

You should definitely try Magnolia%26#39;s and/or Anson%26#39;s. The 2 mentioned in the post above are also very good. SNOB (Slightly North of Broad) is very good. If you are interested in Thai - Basil is excellent. Il Cortile is excellent Italian, as if Fulton Five (northern Italian).

For southern cuisine you have quite a few choices in the historic district. These are just a few suggestions, Jestines Kitchen, Poogans Porch, we also LOVE 82 Queen, Jimmy Dengates or Cru Cafe.

Peninsula Grill--one of the highest rated in town

Magnolias

Carolinas

Ansons

Slightly North of Broad

Cyprus

McCradys--My favorite

Do NOT go to Hymens--its a tourist trap with long lines!!!

Jestine%26#39;s kitchen had a line outside when I was there - so they must be good! I wish I had tried them out. I passed on Poogan%26#39;s porch, although I hear they have good food, as well. 82 Queen was an awesome place to eat - great atmosphere and great food! I honestly don%26#39;t think you could go wrong anywhere in Charleston for food! I didn%26#39;t have a great experience at Joseph%26#39;s, however, but I am told that I should give it another try - which I intend to do next time I am in town. I always trust the experts : )

There are a ton of restaurants in Charleston, I would suggest looking over this site to get a feel for some of them. There is information about all the restaurants mentioned so far in this thread.

The lines at Jestines look long but it didn%26#39;t take us that long, maybe 15-20 to get a table and the line was around the corner. They don%26#39;t take a waiting list with your name though, you wait in line and you get a table when you get to the front of the line. I had heard so many great things about Jestines that we tried it last weekend. I also have heard it was hit and miss. Maybe someone can tell me, is the fried chicken always so overcooked? Everything else was good, but the chicken just seemed to have been left in the fryer a few too many minutes. I don%26#39;t think it was just ours either, we looked at other tables and it all looked the same. If it wasn%26#39;t for that I would have nothing but praise for the place. Maybe we were there on a miss day. I will give it another try one day, the coca-cola cake was out of this world though and the service was outstanding. That in itself is worth going back for.

How do you guys feel about Robert%26#39;s? I%26#39;ve read good reviews, but they sound sort of ';salesy';.
