Going to Charleston in a couple of weeks, wondering if there are any free parking close to the historic district?
Parking
Not really. Occassionally you%26#39;ll get lucky and find street parking in an unrestricted area but wouldn%26#39;t chance it as our meter maids do get a little ticket happy. There are Charleston County Parking Garages in town where you can park from 7AM-7PM for only $6/day. There is one located on the corner of Queen and King Streets and one at the corner of Cumberland and Church Streets (this is actually the one closest to the Market...the other one mentioned is only about 4 blocks from the Market). South of Broad Street as well as most of the streets south of the Market require residential parking stickers and I%26#39;m not kidding when I say the meter maids get ticket happy so don%26#39;t chance it unless you want a souvenir from our police to take home with you.
Enjoy your trip!
Parking
I am pretty sure that parking is free on the streets after 6pm and on Sundays.
If you get Downtown early there are some spots around the Battery that are free, but those tend to fill up first. Also as mentioned meters are free after 6pm.
